Pricing
The Bottom Line
  • We sort the whole bike. So we don't have a big table of different jobs and prices.
  • Every bike we receive goes through our System and comes out fully operational and visually transformed.
  • This normally averages from £30-£60. Minimum charge is £20.
  • We do not give quotes (or even vague estimations) without seeing the bike.
  • We do come out, assess your bike, and give you a quote free of charge with no obligation.
  • We hold a large range of parts from economy to top of the line. (But no cheap rubbish.)
Where we fit in
We are not really cheap or really expensive. We are a professional, dedicated team of mechanics who work to the highest standards. Our charges are reasonable and fair: enough to provide our service, meet our costs, keep us in business and earn a living wage for 2008.

If you want to get your bike fixed 'on the cheap', or only want one problem fixed whilst ignoring the rest of the bike then we are probably not the business for you.

If you take your bike to a national chain, you might pay up to £55 (plus parts) for a basic service, which would not include some basic jobs like changing your tyres and replacing your cables. (That would cost an extra £32.50 in labour alone.) And of course, you have to drop the bike off and wait for a time that is convenient for them before picking it up again.

If you want your bike fixed for a very reasonable cost, to the highest standards, by award-winning, professional mechanics, with free collection and delivery and by a friendly, independent local business then we are the people for you.
Things to bear in mind
There really is no way you can tell from a web page how much it will cost to fix your bike, or more importantly how well someone will do it. There is no way to give any sort of realistic quote without seeing and assessing the bike.

A large part of our work comes from recommendations and repeat business. Why? Because we are passionate about what we do, our prices are very competitive and the service is second to none. However, just like we can't give you a quote without seeing the bike, you can't tell without trying us.

The best guide to our prices and quality of work is the feedback page. This is all 100% unedited and unsolicited. (Yes I know some of it is a bit cringe-worthy!)
"But the bike only cost me thirty quid!"
Maintenance costs are not related to the value of the bike. The value of maintenance costs is in the ease of use and pleasure you get from the bike and the savings made until further work is required.

It doesn't matter if your bike cost (or is worth) five hundred or fifty pounds. If you spend £40 on having it serviced and you get a year's pleasurable use out of it, that is less than £1 a week. If you regularly use it instead of taking public transport, you will actually save hundreds of pounds.

If you have a second-hand bike that's broken, you could look for another second-hand bike that does work, or you could spend around the same amount of money getting the original one sorted and then you know you'll be able to rely on it. This might not be true for another one you purchase.
Bits and Bobs
  • If due to the condition of your bike we're unable to give an accurate quote on the spot, we will take it away assess it and get back to you with a quote still free of charge.
  • We don't charge for lubes, oil, grease, nuts and bolts, valve caps, etc.
  • We only use stainless steel cables. Beat the rust.
"I liked your article on cheap bikes - it put me off buying one from Sterling House."
